Welcome to this page

The aim of this site is to give some history on shearing in the central wheatbelt area of Western Australia from the 1950's onwards.

In the mid 1950's, a shearer was paid approximately twelve pounds for shearing one hundred sheep. This was considered good money in those days. My brother Ron Goddard and John Kuhne had a shearing circuit in the Merredin area, and carried their own plant on the back of their ute. The farmer's wife provided all meals and morning and afternoon teas. Both men won various shearing competitions at country shows in the 1950's, 1960's and 1970's.
